How I Spent My Spankiversary or Maxi's Balls of Steel

Recently, Team Spank celebrated our first birthday! YAY US! (Because we such self-congratulatory assholes, of course.)

You'd think that Spanks would celebrate by:

- drinking
- posting madly
- yelling at each other in LARGE, COLOURFUL FONTS.

Well, we didn't.... okay we did. We did that.

But the ultimate icing on the cake was... MAXI, god of the spanks, met up with our illustrious Team Leader. KATEE SACKHOFF herself!

A momentous event! The biggest ever.

Teamspank meets Team Leader. (Okay there was the time when Swim and Starby met her, and that was good too, but this time, our HEAD person. MAXI met her)

(On a side note, some of us believe this to be bigger than us, of course. Destiny, blah, blah, blah. How could it not be so?)

Now, Maxi, modest as she is despite the fact that she is more famous than Katee (sorry, Katee), hemmed and hawed about going.

In the end, she did.

At the prodding of her faithful spanks, Maxi flew the hour it took to Melbourne (pronounced Mel-bin), booked a hotel, and attended her first ever convention.

She prepped for this by watching the most enjoyable film "Galaxy Quest" and getting a Twitter account. (Spanks, see how Maxi leads by example.)

Also, she, with Dj's help, prepared lovely Teamspank banners.

Meanwhile, back in the U.S. where most of us active spanks reside, a flurry of activity commenced. All of us excited (and jealous) that Maxi would meet our Team Leader.
As events unfolded, some of us kept vigil for Maxi's reports, maniacally checking Twitter and harassing Maxi to let us know what was going on. (unfortunately for some, all this took place beginning around 11:30 PM EST. Too late for many).

In the end, Maxi and our Team Leader did not disappoint.

Maxi met Katee and was not chewed out in fact, which is what she had feared.

They had a lovely talk (which I'm certain Maxi will update us on).

The clincher was that Maxi had Teamspank banners signed.

Yep, you know which ones.

I'll have you know that Spanks who were watching this practically died. It was both shocking and awesome.

Heh. Waaay cool, Maxi.

It all led us to the conclusion that Maxi has balls of steel. Not just any regular balls of steel, but Balls of Stainless Steel and Diamond Hard.

Yup. That's Maxi for you. We are so proud of her.

Also, she found out that Katee does visit our website and now has passwords. (Once again, causing some spanks to perish/ feel sick).

(Katee, if you are reading this, great. We love you and support you all the way.)

While I could go on, I won't because that's Maxi's story to tell.

Just remember folks. The moral of the story: Maxi has bigger balls than you.

Katee Shoots Guns in Halo 3? I Wanna Play, Too!

The setting is 2007, specifically September 25th. A line is trailing out of WalMart for blocks, the store not yet opened. What are they waiting for? Halo 3, of course!
Halo 3 was hands down the most anticipated game release of 2007. It was ported only to the XBox 360 console and it sold 3.3 million copies in 12 days, even setting the record for 24-hour sales - $170 million dollars.

But the highlight of the game was not the plot, the graphics, or the epic gun shooting. No, the highlight of this game was 20 seconds worth of dialogue said by Female Marine #2, who you should all know is voiced by Katee.

Having never played the game myself - and I doubt many of the other Spanks have played it either - I was worried by this character title. As if being unnamed wasn't bad enough, she's labeled as a "marine". In shooting games, characters with names like "marine" or "soldier" and the like usually are used as shooting targets. If this was so, then we would have to boycott the game and start a movement against its players for shooting at Katee.

However, in my intense interrogation of my coworkers who have played the game, I have gleaned extremely valuable information: Instead of shooting at her, you shoot with her. I bet she kills tons of bad guys, because she's just that awesome.
She has fantastic dialogue, all 20 seconds of it. In fact, I'm willing to bet this is the highest paid batch of 20 seconds worth of lines in video game history. Nice job, Katee! You can hear her say:

• Here it comes!
• We've got a problem!
• Eat lead!
• Hold on to your hats!

for a few examples.
Now, I feel it's important to get opinions of people who have actually played the game. Unfortunately, my emails to my coworkers asking them for a typed paragraph of minimum 5 sentences have gone unanswered. I did manage to find quite a few reviews by doing a google search, including someone on Digg saying in response to the game, quote, "mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Katee Sackhoff....... damn I'm a nerd." Very to the point.

However, I will leave you with a passage from some Firefly fan who had a lot to say about the game (Source):

So, again, I'm thinking, okay maybe it's just a coincidence but then when Katee's character is around she is sounding just like Starbuck! When I accidentally shot her in the middle of a battle she yelled at me that we're all "friendlies" just like Starbuck says in one of the episodes when she came across both crews ready to battle. But the defining moment was when one of the grunts was attacking the jeep she was in she yelled out something like "Frack! We've been hit!" She definitely says frack. Plus if you stare at her to try and get her to talk she definitely has Starbuck's attitude and will say stuff like "Bug off creepo" or "Is there a problem sir?"

I think I need to buy me a XBox 360...

I Burned My Leg Watching Battlestar Galactica!

I'm only posting about this here because I am strangely proud of this accomplishment and want the world to know. Who else in fandom can lay claim to being so engrossed in a TV show that they didn't notice their leg burning and consequently had to go to hospital the next day cause it was a hot painful mess?

 

The back story is that I had to wait for hours for the torrent to download for "Daybreak Part I" - something that I have to deal with each and every week. Anyway, as I was waiting, I was surfing away and idly gossiping about a whole lot of nothing much, as we Spankers tend to do. So I was sitting there with my lappy resting on my leg, and eventually the torrent finished downloading so away I went. It was kinda cold outside, but my lappy was multi-tasking and acting as a bit of a heater. I was content and cosy, and getting very engrossed in the show. After a while, i started t think that my defacto heater was over-reaching a bit and I was getting a little hot, but what did I care - BSG WAS ON.

Then about 15 minutes later my leg felt REAL hot and my laptop suddenly overheated and conked out. I kind of had the shits with this fact and shoved it angrily off my lap.OMG. The state of my leg. It was this big red mush the size of a grape fruit, with a couple of enormous blisters and tons of satellite blisters. So gross. At least I had to deal with it, so I had something to do in the excruciating wait while my laptop cooled down again and I could reboot. I was more pissed about being interrupted (aka 'cock-blocked') mid BSG epi. That's just not on. Anyway I went and got it checked out the next day and its on the mend.

I'm just so proud of it though. I really need to get a life. I really should add a picture of it, but then I'd have to hide it under spoiler tags cause it would REALLY spoil your appetite

Katee Sackhoff Answeres Questions...And Is Awesome as Always!

When it was announced that Katee Sackhoff was doing a Q&A with Cort and Fatboy after the airing of Daybreak Part 1, we Spanks all around went a little crazy. A few of us stayed up really late that night, forcing ourselves to stay awake, trying to come up with questions for the blogger, named "Liam", to ask, waiting for the promised fantastic blog coverage... which looked like this:

So, after our frustration blew over, Youtube videos of the actual Q&A were posted, and we all went crazy again... until we found spoilers in the bootlegs. Once we got over that, finally, Cort and Fatboy finally put the official video of the night up on Tuesday night... three days after everyone watched the bootlegs. It's amazing. You will hear Katee sing, say "Spank", and answer some really fun questions.

Starbuck is a Bad Influence on TeamSPank

A little over a year ago, forces were coming together to form something unlike the world had ever known. Planets were aligning, stars were shining and TeamSpank was being formed. In case you've been living on the nuclear wasteland of Caprica and don't know what TeamSpank is, we are a legion of slightly neurotic, but perfectly harmless (usually), fans of Katee Sackhoff. Although, if you are here reading this then you probably already know that.

One year ago this month (March 27th to be exact), TeamSpank became an entity of it's own and moved into their new home, TeamSpank HQ and The TeamSpank Treehouse. It's been a wild and crazy year. We've had good times and bad times and just plain out of control times. Through it all, TeamSpank perservered.

Katee has done some pretty amazing things over the past year too. BSG has ended and she's moving on to bigger and better things. We are all so excited about seeing her in new roles. It always comes back to Starbuck though. That's where it started. That's where we fell in love. TeamSpank would probably not exist without Kara "Starbuck" Thrace.

A few weeks ago, I got the inspiration to make a video in honor of this special time in Spank history. I first thought about making a "Katee" video, highlighting some of her greatest acting moments and how they influenced us. I probably would have lost my mind trying to find video clips from The Last Sentinal and Halloween Resurrection though, so I finally chose to focus on BSG. Even though some of us "met" Katee through different venues, I think we all fell in love with her because of Starbuck. So that's what this video is all about...how we fell in love with Starbuck (and subsequently Katee). Because, let's face it. If we had first seen Katee in TLS and never watched BSG would any of us be here now? I don't think so.

Thanks to all of the Spanks that posted your favorite Starbuck moments. I didn't want the video to be all of my favorite moments, so I asked you guys to step up and you did. There were some scenes that I probably would have never thought of or chosen if it had been left up to me. This truly is a team effort. I tried to include everybody's favorites, but there were a few that I just couldn't make work. I hated that, but the song was only so long.

Also, let me apologize if your name did not make the video. I had a limited number of "you's" to fill and more Spanks than I knew what to do with. I felt bad having to leave anybody out, but it couldn't be helped. So I devised a little formula to use and came up with the exact number I needed. Basically, if your name didn't make the video, you haven't been here in several months or you've made very few posts. Bottom line...YOU SHOULD SPANK MORE AND OFTEN!!
