Just What is TeamSPank and How Was it Born?

You may have already heard of TeamSPank before finding your way here.  Perhaps you've asked yourself, "Why do they call themselves that?" or "How did they come to be?"  Well, here is everything (and probably more) that you ever wanted to know about TeamSPank.

There once was an actress named Katee Sackhoff.  She was on a little show called Battlestar Galactica (or BSG for short) on the SciFi network (or skiffy for short).  Skiffy had a huge forum dedicated to BSG with tons and tons of threads full of exciting people.  During the last half of 2007, a number of people started to gather and feel at home in a place called The Katee Sackhoff Appreciation Thread.  There were all kinds of people of all ages from all over the world with one thing in common -- an unhealthy obsession with Katee Sackhoff and/or Starbuck.

So why do we call ourselves SPanks?  Well, on August 1, 2007 Katee Sackhoff appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!  Pure magic happened that night.  Katee provided this group of devoted fans something priceless.  She explain that her brother, Erick, had the nickname "Spank" growing up.  This had something to do with some kind of activity that rhymes with Sackhoff.  I'm not sure exactly what that's all about.  Anyway, Erick's friends even called Katee "Littlespank" and Mrs. Sackhoff "Maspank."  Thus The SPanks were born.  Unfortunately, I can't embed the video but here's the link to it...

Do yourself a huge favor and watch that video!

In March of 2008, TeamSPank became too much for skiffy to contain.  So the SPanks set out on an adventure to find a home of their own.  The original TeamSpank HQ and Treehouse were started and thrived for several years.  So much happened during that time.  Many friendships were forged and memories were made.  Unfortunately, both sites succumbed to the evil of Russian hackers in late 2011.  Out of necessity, Treehouse 2.0 was started along with a new TeamSPank Blog.

Now, you may be wondering to yourself why I keep making typos and putting a capital "P" in the word "SPank."  Well, it's not a typo.  This little phenomenon was first noticed when a couple of SPanks (Starby and Swim) met Katee Sackhoff and got her to autograph something for the SPanks.

Photobucket

We didn't think that much about it until some time later when our fearless leader MaxiSpank got another autograph from Katee.

You may be inclined to think that Katee was just having an off day and signed a bunch of stsuff with random capital letter.  However, these two autographs occured months apart and were signed on two different continents.  For whatever reason, when Katee writes "TeamSPank" she capitalizes the P.  We thought it was endearing and only fitting that we should do the same.

As you can see, this is a VERY scaled down version of the history of TeamSPank.  You can find a much more detailed history HERE.  However, that is mostly the history of DJ and Fats and how they were in love with themselves and each other.  Just kidding. (Not really.)  Love you guys!

So, does that just about cover ever thing? Anybody have any questions?

Erick Sackhoff: Brother, Taco Bell Eater, One True Spanker

POSTED BY:  LittleSpank

A few things are known about Erick Sackhoff.

One thing we know upon looking at his last name is that it’s a weird foreign last name. (It’s pronounced Sack-off.) Erick’s group of friends are the ones we can thank for the nick name “Spank” but let us just explore the potential nicknames that he could have gotten from that nickname had his friends not been teenage boys obsessed with touching themselves at the time he was likely give this nickname (because “spank” or more commonly known as “spank the monkey” is another term for “jerking off” which is a slang way to say “masturbate”).

So had his friends not been overly obsessed with their body parts, he could have been called a number of different things. One of the likely possibilities is that he could have been called “no pouch”. They could have taken “Sack” and changed it to “pouch” and been like “pouch off, is kinda like NOT having a pouch, so let’s call him ‘no pouch’” So that would have made Katee “LittleNoPouch” and their mother “MaNoPouch.”

While these nicknames, if looked at from a certain perspective are very appropriate for Katee and Her mother, they where obviously not OK by Erick and his friends. This is probably because Erick’s friends liked him, so they wanted to give him a nickname that didn’t emasculate him, but one that just made it obvious that this group of boys thought masturbation was funny (because let’s face it, it is. The word “spank” is funny and the word “masturbation” is even funnier. I keep saying it over and over again in hopes that this article will come up on a Google search when people are trying to look up something they really SHOULDN’T be looking up).

The only substantial information source on Erick (on the entire internet, including Wikipedia) is Katee Sackhoff.

Not only is she one of the only sources, but it is really only during Cort and Fatboy interviews that she talks about him, and we assume, based on the stuff she says during these interviews that she is “slightly” to “very” intoxicated. So with that being said, we’re not really sure how accurate the information is that she is telling us. The only thing to consider here is that Erick actually went into a Cort and Fatboy interview with her. This basically means that he was either just as drunk as she was during this one interview, or what she says about her brother (and mother and boyfriend) is a fact and can be reported as such (by me).

The first true fact we know about Erick (because he can be heard saying this at the interview) is that Katee is from St. Helen’s. So, I assume since he is the older sibling that he was also born in this mysterious town in Oregon. The reasoning behind him saying that she was from there, was because he was given a list of things by his mother to NOT mention during the interview. Things like “weed, racism and Taco Bell” and his response was sic “(you) can talk about pot head racism because you’re from St. Helen’s.”

Apparently Erick thinks this “being from St. Helens” thing gives him an excuse to like the show Heroes over Battlestar Galactica. When pressed further about why he likes Heroes over BSG he was like “Well, the first time I saw my little sister doing a sex scene I threw up in my mouth, that doesn’t happen on Heroes.” He was questioning how he could be the “protective older brother” when his little sister is orgasmicly shouting out “Lee! LEE!” on the television screen in front of him. Katee’s response was “that’s not my O face” (and the discomfort did not stop there).
As pay back for Erick “beating her up” as a kid, she talked about her blow job technique and how it could possibly pertain to Edward James Olmos. Erick’s response was to criticize her singing. Although, he didn’t really criticize it, so much as he said it was “you know, alright or whatever”.

Katee 1, Erick 0.

Based on this back and fourth, it would appear that Katee has found a way to torture her older brother. Which, is really one of the most natural things any sibling pair can do once they reach adult age. The younger one has a lot of pent up aggression based on the years being tricked, outsmarted and tortured by the older sibling. The older sibling, on the other hand, really doesn’t care. In order to work out the pent up aggression, the younger sibling will find ways to “torture”, “trick” or “outsmart” the older sibling (in this case, it was Katee getting her brother to watch a sex scene involving her calling out Lee’s name in a fit of sexual ecstasy, and Erick going “GAH! SHIT! WHAT THE FUCK DUDE!”. That’s Katee – 2, Erick – Still Zero).

Despite Erick’s love for Heroes and apparent hate for Battlestar Galactica, in a rare (probably drunken) moment, Katee Sackhoff told her legions of fans that the character of Starbuck was actually based on her brother, Erick. To some of her more sexually confused (supposedly “straight” female) fans, this came as a huge relief. Something along the lines of “Woah. What a relief! Starbuck isn’t turning me a little less straight every day she is in my life! In reality I have a giant crush on this fictional character that is actually based on a dude. Which means technically I haven’t completely abandoned my heterosexual lifestyle despite all these weird confusing feelings!”

But then things get a little more confusing, because if Starbuck is based on a guy, and she likes to have wild sex with guys, then what does that make her? Is she actually just a gay man in a woman’s body? I think the technical term is transsexual. But, does that make all of us all hopefully in love with a gay man?

At some point, Katee hatched a plan to get Erick to be an extra or have a minor speaking role in an episode of Battlestar Galactica. He wanted to be on the show as a person with special powers, like in Heroes, but she thought he would better serve as Adama and Roslin’s “Fleet Wheat” dealer.

Considering he has a child, this was soon ruled out as “a terrible idea.”
So Erick continues to not watch Battlestar Galactica and watch Heroes instead. He continues to eat Taco Bell and not be a bad boy pot head. He continues to probably be pretty cool, and if not he’s the sibling of Katee Sackhoff, which means there are good genes there, despite their self proclaimed “St. Helen’s” origins. (Wikipedia was no help on why people from St. Helen’s think it’s OK to be a fan of Heroes of Battlestar Galactica.)

Supanova Melbourne 2009

POSTED BY:  BeckSpank

I know this is a bit late- but I wanted to share my convention experience and my first time (and hopefully not the last) meeting Katee Sackhoff. I actually had no intention of going to Supanova until two weeks before when they announced Katee as a last minute replacement guest. The convention came the weekend after the finale to BSG (which I didn’t like the ending of) so the convention was a good way for me to say goodbye to the show.

A few things that Katee said:
  • She doesn’t know what Kara is.
  • She seemed disappointed that there was no resolution between Kara and Lee, and she doesn’t know why it was written that way.
  • Katee ad-libbed the “I love you” to Sam because she knew she wasn’t getting any kind of resolution with Lee and she wanted Kara to have that with someone.
  • Katee is getting a motorcycle for her birthday (since this is late, she would now have it). She wants/or has (I’m not sure) a bike with yellow daises on it, and Tricia’s bike is purple.
  • Katee, Tricia, their significant others and Michael Trucco have formed a motorcycle group. Katee was excited that Michael was getting his fiancée a bike so they would have another woman in the group.
  • Katee isn’t in the BSG movie The Plan, as it was shooting started a few days after the finale finished and she was exhausted, plus she had just been diagnosed with cancer.
  • There was no resolution between Kara and Leoben because Callum Keith Rennie was really the only actor they couldn’t tie down to a contract and he was busy filming other things, probably Californication.
  • She loves Twilight, and came out on the second day to the Q and A wearing a Twilight shirt.
Overall she was a complete delight to meet, she was really friendly, though I was so nervous I couldn’t carry on any sort of prolonged conversation with her other than to basically gush to her about how awesome she is.

Spank Meets Sackhoff

Spank Meets Sackhoff

Written by MaxiSpank
28-29th March 2009

Last weekend I became the third official Spanker to meet Katee Sackhoff. (Actually I think there are more, but they met her pre-TeamSpank, so that doesn't count). I thought I'd better write it all up before the rest of you whip my arse, and also because when Swimmer and Starby met her, they only managed to produce a hysterical, blubbering rant. Let's see if I can do better. (I know I'm gonna ramble - that's ok. No-one has to read it).

I would have never in a zillion years considered going to the US to one of those Con things, but freakishly, The Sackhoff as good as came to me - so I really had to get my finger out and get my arse down to Melbourne on a reconnaissance mission for the Spankers. I got to meet Katee S a couple of times and have a couple of chats, so my efforts were successful I guess. She was totally sweet and lovely, but I must confess I felt like a massive, utter loser. You don't have any identity at those things to distinguish yourself. Your self-esteem takes a beating. It's a pretty uneven way to meet someone. I really wanted to tell Katee that my TV show is about 500 times more popular in Australia than hers is and that pretty much everyone in the building would have heard my work, even if they didn't know who I was - I just wanted her to know that I wasn't the total loser that I must have seemed to be. But obviously that would have been silly, pathetic and inappropriate and she wouldn't have given a shit anyway, so I didn't bother. Either way, she would have totally forgotten me by now so it's not like it matters. It must be pretty hard going meeting a shitload of needy strangers like that and keeping a smile on your face the whole time. She's obviously a total pro at it though. She was really nice & open. That Hayden chick from Heroes was there too & I got the vibe that she wasn't as comfortable with the whole thing, which is fair enough since she's very young. It looked like she and Katee S were pals. Richard Hatch was there too and he was a very welcoming, generous, cool dude.

In the first chat, I confessed my TeamSpank sins & Katee confirmed that she's read some of the stuff on the site. I was very relieved she didn't rip me a new one there on the spot. A couple of site things she's read include that sarcastic piece of snark "The Helmet" and also DJ's review of Katee's playlist. I have a feeling that Katee may be a tad sensitive about her playlist and that DJ's review pretty much hit her where it hurts. (By the way Katee, when DJ called you "a sick, sick fuck and a genuine Spank" - she meant that as a huge compliment). On that note, I'd like to point out to Katee that I have also seen DJ's playlist, which contains an Avril Lavigne song. DJ, you are in NO position to be judging Katee Sackhoff. You really should be burying your head in the sand.
I was pretty mortified to learn that Katee (and Tricia H) had read "The Helmet", considering that thing was 100% me. Apparently having read it, Katee said something like "I don't care; I'm still not going to get a full helmet". haha. Katee, I didn't mean for anyone to heed my advice or anything. I was just bored and saw a photo and thought it would be a funny, random thing to write about. I've only ever ridden a motorcycle once - I got the brake and accelerator mixed up and crashed head first into a barbed-wire fence after about 30 secs. I'm obviously NO expert in these matters. That thing has a new-ish (Jan 2009) addition at the end by the way. About Tricia.

At that first meeting I also got Katee to autograph a bunch of TeamSpank Pimpage Banners, which were mainly put together by DJ. I'm still coming to terms with the fact that I actually paid money for someone's autograph (something I always vowed I'd never do - too much like paying for sex or something). But anyway, I guess it was worth it because now we've got some more shit to pimp around the website & Treehouse. Katee looked at me like I was on crack when she asked me what to write on them and I said "oh, whatever you like". I don't know the etiquette for these things - I've never asked for an autograph before in my life. Katee said she thought she was sick on the day of the sleeping one, which makes me feel a little like we're having a laugh at her expense (this wouldn't be the first time). Some Spankers have been saying that my balls are made of steel since I got her to sign the "fucking hates us" one. Honestly guys, we've all heard Katee say 'fuck'. She wasn't going to be offended. If she didn't want to sign it, that would be fair enough, but it's not like she hadn't come across the term "fucking" before. She was actually far more interested in where that picture came from (that Bear M thing). Damn, Katee does some truly sublime death stares. Scary shit. She's not someone you'd really want to piss off too much.
Based on recent events, I'm pretty sure she doesn't hate us. Except for DJ.
The second chat I had with Katee was mainly about the online thing - about how some folks people have been misquoting shit she's said in interviews and at cons and how some of them have been pretty hateful. I think she might be a bit burned by it, but at least she doesn't read that crap anymore, thank God. She'd only just learned about that horrid Cort & Fatboy Q&A fall out a day or so before.

I mentioned that I didn't think that Anders/Trucco thing at the Cort & Fatboy night was a spoiler at all & she agreed. I felt that side of the show was already over and no-one was going to be getting loved up with anyone any more, (flashbacks aside). When I was watching it, it seemed to me that she was pouring her heart out about how her friend had almost been killed and her feelings about that just took over when they were filming - because her friendship was more important. That was how any decent human being would feel in that situation. Also Trucco, having just had a near fatal accident that could have left him paralysed, had some physical limitations and they had to factor that into the script. Somehow that ended up being a massive character assassination of Katee because Kara & Lee didn't get to have a final shag in the long grass at the end. So shallow. (That's my view on it - KS didn't say any of that).

Katee did two 'panels' at this thing, both of which I attended. They were both totally delightful - she did her usual thing of starting off really shy and then warming into it with rambling, fun answers to the audience Q&As. I was actually impressed with my countrymen - who seemed pretty knowledgeable about Katee and BSG. There were hardly any dumb questions. I didn't think Katee would be famous at all in Aus and I thought she might have to buy her own ticket to get into the con thing. But the room was packed for both panels - 200 people each time maybe. It's a testament to the power of bit torrents really - because BSG is really hard to watch any other way in Australia.
There were lots of BSG type questions at these things, but I'm not gonna talk about them 'cause I'm kinda sick of BSG right now. There were lots of fun anecdotes as well.

Here are a couple…
  • She was talking about how awkward she felt filming the Nip/Tuck sex scenes. She said something like "you may all think you want to see my ass, but trust me, you don't".
  • Her bike gang with Tricia H & their partners is known as "The Acting Outlaws". Katee said they are going to get jackets and logos. There is an abbreviation for it but I couldn't make it out. Trucco is also in the gang, and apparently Trucco's fiancé is learning to ride and about to join. Katee seemed quite pumped about having a third chick in the gang.
  • Katee was chilling at an airport and in the background she heard a high pitched yell "Kateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Kateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee". She wanted to duck for cover, but she turned to have a look. It was Quentin Tarantino. He sat down with her and started talking non-stop about BSG without ever introducing himself.
  • She is massively addicted to Twilight and would happily play a plant in the next movie. She forced her BF to watch it and he didn't sound too impressed.
  • The actors had a theory about the end of BSG, that the Battlestar would find Earth and start to land but that Bush would blow it out of the sky.
One interesting thing that happened at these panels is that we weren't allowed to enter with cameras and phones - we had to leave them at the door. At the first Q&A I just thought the organisers were being control freak dicks - I moaned as much as anybody. However at the second Q&A Katee apologised profusely and she explained 'the ban' was at her request because of people quoting her out of context and misconstruing things. I felt kinda sad for her when she was talking about it - because it's totally true. Some people have been viscious schmucks. It's sad that she doesn't feel she can speak freely without people putting shit on her on the internet.

Katee, in case you've ever bothered to return to TeamSpank and read down this far - I didn't get a chance to mention it when we met but I wish I'd have said that the negativity is only coming from a very small, yet extremely vocal section of the BSG fan base (some, but by no means all of the Kara & Lee 'shippers' who enjoy that element of the show above anything else). They take their disappointments out on you. They have done since Trucco returned to the show after his first couple of episodes. Now BSG is over that will all hopefully become ancient history. The rest of the BSG fan base, other supporters such as TeamSpank and pretty much the rest of the entire world totally loves your candid, fun interview style and pretty much thinks the sun shines out of your arse. Say whatever you wanna say. Don't ever change for anyone.
Well that pretty much sums up my odd little weekend, except to say that I should have never gone in the first place because I had way too much work to do and I've been pulling all-nighters ever since to make up for it. I also spent an excessive amount of $$$ but let's not talk about that. Oh, and I got a speeding ticket driving home from Sydney airport - if I get another one before November my ghost is toast. No soul in the 'real world' knows that I actually went, because had they known, they would have teased me mercilessly. When my mother asked me where I was, I said "at a pop culture event/conference at the showground". I wasn't lying. I was in Melbourne but she thought I meant Sydney. Lucky the plane didn't crash on the way home. That would have left a true mystery. Anyway apart from all that, I'd say it was totally worth it. I'd be kicking myself forever had I not gone.

I Burned My Leg Watching Battlestar Galactica!

POSTED BY:   MaxiSpank

I'm only posting about this here because I am strangely proud of this accomplishment and want the world to know. Who else in fandom can lay claim to being so engrossed in a TV show that they didn't notice their leg burning and consequently had to go to hospital the next day cause it was a hot painful mess?

The back story is that I had to wait for hours for the torrent to download for "Daybreak Part I" - something that I have to deal with each and every week. Anyway, as I was waiting, I was surfing away and idly gossiping about a whole lot of nothing much, as we Spankers tend to do. So I was sitting there with my lappy resting on my leg, and eventually the torrent finished downloading so away I went. It was kinda cold outside, but my lappy was multi-tasking and acting as a bit of a heater. I was content and cosy, and getting very engrossed in the show. After a while, i started t think that my defacto heater was over-reaching a bit and I was getting a little hot, but what did I care - BSG WAS ON.

Then about 15 minutes later my leg felt REAL hot and my laptop suddenly overheated and conked out. I kind of had the shits with this fact and shoved it angrily off my lap.OMG. The state of my leg. It was this big red mush the size of a grape fruit, with a couple of enormous blisters and tons of satellite blisters. So gross. At least I had to deal with it, so I had something to do in the excruciating wait while my laptop cooled down again and I could reboot. I was more pissed about being interrupted (aka 'cock-blocked') mid BSG epi. That's just not on. Anyway I went and got it checked out the next day and its on the mend.

I'm just so proud of it though. I really need to get a life. I really should add a picture of it, but then I'd have to hide it under spoiler tags cause it would REALLY spoil your appetite

Katee & Spanker News Updates

POSTED BY: MaxiSpank
Howdy, here is some Katee news & site updates and other useless information...
Fats and DJ have posted the results of the TeamSpank Starbuck Awards. This is essential reading and you must not venture away from this site until you have read every syllable.

This week, we also have the startlingly tragic news that Katee has apparently blown out her Kimmel appearance for Friday night. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Katee, just so you know, you have broken one of your Spankers' hearts. StarbuckLoveSpank was all set to attend - had her tickets in her greasy, sweaty, grubby little hands - until you had to go and rain on her parade. Don't feel too guilty though Katee - she might pull through. She might get over it eventually, with a lot of love and care (and outrageously expensive councelling).

In an effort to buck Starby up, Katee, some of us suggested that she fly cross country to attend your (somewhat bizarre sounding) Wizard do next weekend. Much to our horror, she decided that was a great idea and now she's gone and bought her plane ticket. She is quite hard up for cash, and she apparently had to break into the piggybank she's had since she was 3. Katee, just so you know, if you blow out that appearance as well, you are going to have BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS. Starby will be inconsolable and you are going to leave one hell of a mess to clean up. Not that we want you to feel responsible or anything (for Starby's probable forthcoming suicide attempt). No pressure, Katee. BTW, the Wizard World advertising team would probably start practicing self-mutilation if you don't show up, also, as they seem to have based their entire advertising campaign around you. No pressure.

If by some miracle Katee doesn't cancel, then Starby and SwimSpank may actually get to meet Katee. If that's the case, they have promised to pass on my apology for the page on the site where I comment about Katee that "she apparently left her brain at the door that day" (in regards to her internationally televised LittleSpank nickname announcement). There will be no apology for the massive Last Sentinel roasting that Katee cops on this site - she deserves every word of it.

I've also asked Starby to print out my "Sentinel Shame" article and to ask Katee to sign it. That would make my (pathetic, little) world just about complete. I wonder if she'd sign it near the 'side-boob' section. That'd be kinda funny. Or the bit where I suggest that my pooch shags the sofa more enthusiastically than Katee's leading man shagged her in their 'love scene'.

In other 'hard' Katee news, she will be doing 4 epis of the show Nip/Tuck. This sounds like fun, although some of us are frankly relieved it's only 4 epis. Fats is particularly delighted, as by all accounts, Nip/Tuck is quite a racy show, so all things being equal, this should mean that Katee will have to get her gear off and maybe even flash some collarbone. Woohoo!

So Katee, when are you gonna announce a show or movie or something that will give the Spankers cause for celebration? We need some good shit to watch, although we'll still watch the bad shit, if you're in it, cause we have no self-control.

One last thing - there seem to be two fairly regular daily SpankFests these days at the Treehouse. They seem to occur early in the morning US time - like about 10am and around 11pm - midnight. Don't ask me about time zones, but if ya want to work it out, for me, in Sydney, they happen at 3am and about 3pm EST. There are always a whole bunch of Spankers randomly gossiping away, so come and join the fun. The main Katee thread is pretty much random chat interspersed with katee & BSG talk, where the other threads stay pretty strickly on-topic.
